Famous Double Shots

Famous Double Shots

What’s a Double Shot?

A Double Shot is when someone…a regular, non-celebrity someone…bears an amazingly spot on…uncanny…eerie…ek dam head-turning resemblance to an IFI actor.

A famous Double Shot is what you get when someone…a fellow celebrity someone…bears an uncanny etc., etc…

This is who I have so far:

Dino Morea & Brad Pitt Biography of Brad Pitt

…notice the similarities in head shapes…jaw lines…cheek bones…oooh…and their lips.  Yeah, pretty much that whole face area.

Don’t agree?

Check out Dino Morea in any one of his films (Dino Morea IMDB).  This is one of those “…have to see it to believe it…” situations.

Kunal Khemu & Leonardo DiCaprio

I know.  You can’t see Kunal’s eyes.  Trust me, with or without the glasses, they’re total Double Shots.

Kajol & Meg Ryan  Kajol Mukherjee 1 View Image

I think Kajol is one of the most beautiful famous people around…& I can’t believe how much she & Meg Ryan (before the plastic surgery) look like each other.

Check back for more Famous Double Shots in the future…

…Nana Patekar, Ayesha Takia, Hrithik Roshan, Diya Mirza, Kareena Kapoor…

Tanu Weds Manu (2011)…6 Bindi Trailer Review

Tanu Weds Manu…(2011)…now playing

starring:   Kangana Ranaut, R Madhavan, Jimmy Shergill

***6 bindis out of 9

***rating & review based solely on several YouTube trailers & subject to change upon full film review***

2 bindis

for this film because it looks like an IFI Rom-Com that delivers.  Actually, 2 because it reminds me strongly of several other all-time favorites that more than delivered:

DDLJ, Jab We Met, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Tashan, the 1st hour of Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar…and absolutely of Hyderabad Blues.  All these films have several rare traits in common — charm, chemistry between actors, an engaging (if not critically acclaimed) storyline, super endearing actors w/ acting ability, and that magical, un-namable extra something I like to think of as, “IFI Shtyle”.

3 bindis

for Jimmy (Jasjit) Shergill…a/k/a “Tall, Hot, & Baap ré!”  I know. He’s married.  Anyone know if he has a twin brother?  Or even a slightly good-looking cousin-brother…

Wait, where was I?  Oh yeah…Tanu Weds Manu…

While I like Madhavan, I wish this were a movie about the Goonda W/ a Heart of Gold who get’s the woman.  & we keep Jimmy as the goonda.

It’s not.

It is a way too small supporting role. HEAR Jimmy Shergill is in this movie.  What I don’t have is confirmation via any of the trailers.

I mean, I saw his name listed under the credits on IMDB, so I know he’s in it.  But that’s it. I haven’t seen him in a single clip.  Trust me…I looked!

And I’ve read in other reviews that he rocks his on-screen time…

…that he has a  ”can’t take your eyes off him” quality in this film

….that his part & performance are so good, the audience wants to see him in more of the film (like in all of it).

I’ve read a lot of things.

As a rule, I never believe anything I read on the internet (NY Times excluded) with out visual proof, in this case, I’m believing it w/out seeing it.

1 bindi

for Kangana Raunat.  I love her look in this film.  Her character has sass, moxi…a definite kick-ass, Hema Malini in Sholay feel.

It’s crazy.  You can’t even tell that it’s her.  She looks 180° different.  Does that mean she has range?  Possibly.  All I know is her look in this film, from her hair (love it curly) to her wardrobe, are part of why I will see Tanu Weds Manu (2011).

Patiala House (2011)…7 Bindi Trailer Review

Patiala House…(2011)…now playing

starring:   Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma

***7 bindis out of 9

***rating & review based solely on one trailer & subject to change upon full film review***

3 bindis

For the songs!!!  Daaaamn. Laung Da Lashkara is reason enough to watch this film.  But then you get Rola Pe Gaya, & Tumba Tumba. And that is hella’ better than average.

2 bindis

For Akshay Kumar (and Kumar-ji…consider Tees Mar Khan totally forgotten…friends?) and Anushka Sharma and this story…& because I got this warm, fuzzy feeling watching the trailer.

Maybe I was thinking about Bend It Like Beckham, Dil Bole Hardippa!, or Hoosiers…no, wait…I meant The Karate Kid.  No, that’s not it either.  Hmmm.  What’s that one movie where the main character is like rock-star great at something, but isn’t doing that thing because of an insurmountable obstacle?

Never mind.  It’ll come to me.

2 bindi

For Rishi Kapoor & Dimple Kapadia.  I can’t even begin to fathom the amount of filmage these 2 have under their belts.  Much respect.

Will I see the feature.  Hell yes.  Ek dam hell yes.

So why not 9 bindi’s?

I lied.  Tees Mar Khan.  I am still holding a grudge.

7 Khoon Maaf (2011)…6 Bindi Trailer Review

7 Khoon Maaf…(2011)…now playing

starring:   Priyanka Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Aleksandr Dyachenko

***6 bindis out of 9

***rating & review based solely on one trailer & subject to change upon full film review***

2 bindis

For this film being damn intriguing…is the lead character a black widow psycho?  Is she unlucky in love?  Or…is she a woman who stopped these men from hurting her…in which case, good for her.  I Can’t tell.

2 bindis

For quite possibly being wrong about Priyanka Chopra’s acting ability.

There…I said it.

Actually, I can’t tell.  The trailer doesn’t offer much in the way of her speaking, except that one line she utters, “Next time, I’ll drink his blood.” And that didn’t exactly sell me.

However, as you might know, I have a strong preference towards hearing IFI actors speaking Indian languages…so I won’t discount her acting skills on that one line alone.

1 bindi

For that one song, “Darling” — it’s a toe tapper.  The other songs…not so much.

1 bindi

For Irrfan Khan because he’s one of my favorite actors.  In fact, DIFI, I have a small, humble request:

Make more movies with Irrfan Khan & Tabu or Konkona Sen Sharma.  See?  Small & humble and promises to give you a big pay off.  Seriously, mention not.

No One Killed Jessica (2011)…9 Bindi Trailer Review

No One Killed Jessica…(2011)

starring:   Rani Muhkerjee, Vidya Balan

***9 bindis out of 9

***rating & review based solely on several amazing trailers & subject to change upon full film review***

2 bindis

For Rani & Vidya.  And their above par acting ability.

2 bindis

For making a film with strong, unrelenting female actors

1 bindi

For that one court scene where the lawyer talks about the shooting, the ensuing chaos, etc. to a reluctant witness who says he saw/heard nothing…pretty riveting stuff

4 bindis

For making what looks like a truly compelling film &…for Rani & Vidya!

Yaamla Pagla Deewana…8 Bindi Trailer Review

Yaamla Pagla Deewana…(2010)

starring:   Dharmendra/Sunny/Bobby Deol, Anupam Kher, Kulraj Randhawa

8 bindis out of 9

***rating & review based solely on one 3 min trailer & subject to change upon full film review***

6 bindis

Because this is so close to being one of the films on my “DIFI…Make it Happen!” List (coming soon).

(Actually, the film on my MIH list stars all of the Deol’s…from Sunny (who looks good w/ a beard & paag) to Eisha & Abhay, to Dharmendra-ji & Hema Malini-ji…together at last, in one, epic film!  Okay…it doesn’t have to be epic.  Just good.)

1 bindi

For the music…actually, for the title song & one or two others.

1 bindi

Because it looks like it’s going to be one hell of a good time from start to finish…& who doesn’t like that in a movie?

Khelein Hum Je Jaan Se…9 Bindi Trailer Review

Khelein  Hum Je Jaan Se…(2010)

starring:   Abishek Baachan, Deepika Padukone

9 bindis out of 9

***rating & review based solely on one 3 min trailer & subject to change upon full film review***

2 bindis for Abishek because he’s…well…Abishek

2 bindis for Deepika because she’s a beauty…because she can speak Hindi & use her own voice (if not an IFI “must have”, it’s @ least a “should have”)…& because she might quite possibly be a really good actor

5 bindis for any movie portraying, showing, reminding, pointing out, reflecting upon, highlighting those limey, colonial bastards being their unjust, looting, pillaging, plundering, devolved, homicidal, degenerate selves…AND/OR…getting their asses handed to them as a result of their homicidal delinquency…if even & only for way too brief an instant

That’s my angry, inner-desi review.

My calm-cool-composed, outer-desi review is pretty much…exactly, word for word, the same…& since I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to write this again…limeycolonialbastards!

*************************************************************************

& while belated…Dear IFI (me) would like to wish the world @ large a very happy, healthy, & wise New Year!
